Story of Diter got its start from a sports injury

Story of Diter Oy started when Reima Karsikas had to end his promising career as a short distance runner. Karsikas was aiming to participate in the 1976 Summer Olympics. His journey towards Montreal ended when he fell at full running speed while training. His knee was severely injured and the accident caused a complete paralysis of the peroneus nerve. The doctors were sure he is not able to walk again.

Karsikas was not discouraged by the doctors’s opinion. He began to rehabilitate his leg almost immediately after the cast in his leg had dried. Karsikas had just developed an electronic therapy device to help with physical recovery from exercise caused by sports. The device got a new purpose when Karsikas asked the doctors to make holes to the cast in his leg. He started to exercise his muscles through the cast with the electrotherapy device he had just developed.

The first treatment device of Diter Oy was made for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of the peroneus nerve palsy. The device was introduced to the market in 1976. Since then, Diter Oy has developed over 40 devices for the needs of physiotherapy and beauty care.

Family business runs already in the second generation

Diter Oy is a truly a family company. In the beginning Reima Karsikas manufactured electronical treatment devices with a help of his wife Tuula. Their daughter Minna has also a strong role at Diter.
